Who is eligible to receive CFB donations?
People in need include those leaving transitional housing that serves people who have experienced homelessness, domestic abuse, or chemical dependency, victims of personal or natural catastrophes, young adults leaving the foster care system because of age, those recently released from incarceration, refugees settling in this area, and those with mental or physical challenges who have been in long term care facilities. Other qualified participants may be considered by the Furniture Bank based on discussions with the client's caseworker.
What specific items are needed by the Furniture Bank?
All kinds of furniture is needed including couches, dining room and kitchen table and chairs, dressers, living room chairs, and mattresses to name a few.
What type of agencies can refer clients to the Cleveland Furniture Bank?
Any agency or organization, secular, faith based, or governmental, that serves needy individuals or families in Northeast Ohio can participate and refer clients to the Furniture Bank.
What is a participating agencies responsibility?
The participating agencies are responsible for determining the needs of the clients with whom they are working. Through their normal process of helping their clients, through interviews, or home visits, agencies assess the needs of their clients for furniture and/or clothing and refer them to the Furniture Bank. Additionally, agency case workers are responsible for accompanying their clients to the appointments to select furniture. Agencies may request an application by calling 216-459-2265, ext. 104 or 107.
What if transportation is unavailable to recipient?
Recipients are expected to provide transportation for the furniture that they receive, or they can take advantage of our low-priced delivery service.
Are walk-ins available for families?
No, families and individuals referred to the Furniture Bank receive a convenient scheduled time to come into the Bank to select their furniture. We cannot accommodate walk-ins.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes.
Does every piece of furniture donated go directly to a qualified family?
The majority of furniture collected, (two thirds) goes to needy individuals and families. One third of the furniture is sold through our Thrift Store. The receipts from these sales underwrite the operating expenses of the Cleveland Furniture Bank. This is a successful model that appears to reduce the need for numerous fund raising efforts.
What counties lie within Cleveland Furniture Bank pick up areas?
The CFB pick up area includes all of Cuyahoga County, Northern Summit and Medina Counties, Eastern Lorain County and most of Lake and Geauga Counties.
Do you provide appliances?
No. We do not get enough donated to satisfy the number of people being referred. Our Thrift Store does have some appliances (refrigerators, stoves, and dryers) for sale at reasonable prices.
What if I need clothing?
People can visit the Thrift Store during regular store hours, Monday through Saturday, to purchase clothing at a low cost. You can call the store at 216-459-2265, ext. 108 to find out what days clothing specials are available.
